Picture of the Day

Scenes of the City

Michele and Jesús...I invited Michele to come with Jesús and I to the beach today...but it was cold and cloudy so we just walked around. I find it odd that in Europe the men that I have asked to take their photo without hesitation smile and "pose" for the photo. It pleases me.
I don't know what traditional practice they were doing here but their were three groups all with different colored scarves performing these "stick clanging dances"... it was awesome... they were moving super fast constantly changing formations and banging essentially clubs in rhythm at multiple partners...hats off to them! I want to learn !
Inside the church that was the pic of the day yesterday...
Purple trees please me....

Today's Dinner (Made by Michele)

Michele my Italiano roommate offered to make me dinner to night...as he said "making pasta for one is too sad"... I happily agreed...and excepted...Yum!...He was also really excited that it was my first pasta with zucchini...which is the same world in Italian and English...EASY. BUT, Yesterday he made eggplant (which is a weird sounding word if you think about it egg and plant) and it took me forever to explain to him that that is what the long purple vegetable in his hand is called in the states... finally I went to the default and said "aubergine" and his face lit up in recognition he knew this word...so from there I explained that aubergine is eggplant in English...I am still not sure what the word for eggplant is in Italian, but at least we got that far. :)
Michele also insisted we take "puffy face" photos...perhaps it's his was of showing what our tummies looked like after all the pasta??...though I asked him how often he eats pasta in Italy...he replied "two times" ... to which I asked "two times a week" and he said no..."two times a day...lunch and dinner"...Ha! Fascinated I inquired further if he ate any other courses with his pasta...and he said "No...well except when I go to Mama's" (Italian men and their mamas!) ... and then me "Michele, I would be very fat if I ate pasta twice a day"...Michele "Yes, but I not so fat"...well said sir...well said... no he's not so fat...Ugh. Men and their metabolisms.

A Cool Shop

This is what I came to Spain for....
:)

Today's Lunch

I had lunch outside the Picasso Museum....

Today I went to the Museum Picasso because it was one of the museums on this art ticket I bought for 22euros you get admission to 7 museums. Which is a great deal considering Joan Miro is 8 euro and Casa Mila is 11 euro and Picasso is 11 as well just to get in the card has already paid for itself and the best museums on the card I am saving for last...MACBA, CCCB.
In regards to this museum...
I am sure glad I didn't pay the 11 euros...
A long time ago I was speaking with an art student and I asked him who his favorite artists were...and then mentioned something about Picasso...at which point the gentleman blurted out...."OH, PICASSO WAS A HACK!"
Now I am not for sure I can say Picasso was a hack...I think coming up with a brand new style of painting is admirable...and his early works are brilliant...but I found myself going through the museum looking at the works and thinking to myself...geeze...I think maybe Picasso was a hack!...Though I overheard a docent telling a crowd he was the most wealthy artist of the century... So maybe everyone knows something I don't...hack or not I am on the fence, but I would not pay to go see this museum. (Glad I had the card)

A Cool Shop

I can't go to a museum without stopping in the museum store on the way out...this was the one in Casa Mila and it was gorgeous....I didn't buy anything though I wanted these Mucha music boxes, but they were too heavy for my bag...

Casa Mila

Another of Gaudi's creations....LOVED IT
The chimneys atop the building.....
Because why shouldn't a chimney be a work of art.....
Interior shot from the roof down the apartment building....
Chimneys!!!
!!!!! I think I will have some like these when I grow up....

Casa Mila Continued

Me on the roof...
Inside they had miniatures of all Gaudi's works in the city and I got obsessed with taking photos of them. All in white they are so ornate and breathtaking...
mini of the roof...
View from the chimneys...
Inside was a replica of a Spanish 1900's apartment... me in the mirror of the bedroom.
